Despite early concerns, Cochran supporting McCain for President

The Clarion-Ledger, 10/13/8

U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran once said the thought of fellow senator John McCain going into the White House sent a chill down his spine. On Monday, he said he’s supporting McCain for President.

“His roots run deep in Mississippi,” Cochran told The Clarion-Ledger’s editorial board. “I’m confident my vote is for somebody who will do a fine job as president of the United States.”

Earlier this year, Cochran told the Boston Globe that McCain “is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me.”

Cochran acknowledged his past criticisms of McCain but said he’s always liked him: “I’m glad he’s on our side.”

He said he believes McCain will surround himself with the right people to be a good president.
