League members share $127.2 million
DESTIN, Fla. — To no one’s surprise, the SEC topped its revenue-sharing record again in 2007-08 with $127.2 million, the league announced Friday on the last day of its annual spring meetings.
For the 18th straight year, the SEC bettered the previous year’s take (it was $122 million in 2006-07).
Split 12 ways, each SEC school averaged $10.6 million from the proceeds.
Broken down by categories and rounded off, the $127.2 million was derived from $50.6 million from football television, $25.3 million from bowls, $13.7 million from the SEC Championship Game, $13 million from basketball television, $2.8 million from the men’s basketball tournament and $21.8 million from NCAA championships.
Not included in the total was $11.6 million retained by institutions participating in bowls and $720,000 divided among all 12 schools from the NCAA for academic enhancement.
Just for reference, the league split $4.1 million in 1980, followed by $9.34 million in 1985, $16.3 million in 1990, $40.3 million in 1995, $73.2 million in 2000 and $101.9 million in 2003, the first year over $100 million.
