Gov. Haley Barbour’s Tax Study Commission was charged by the governor with taking a comprehensive look at the state’s tax system and making reform recommendations.
In announcing the new commission, Barbour said: “The commission will take a unified approach, enabling its members to provide a clearer, more accurate picture of the entire tax system than has been available to the Legislature and the public in the past.”
But Barbour offered this caveat – Most importantly, the commission must take into consideration the federal and local tax loads as well.
