Former foes join up in House race

By: Magnolia Tribune - March 15, 2008

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, 3/14/8

Unsuccessful Democratic congressional candidates Marshall Coleman and Brian Neely will issue a joint endorsement Monday for one of the remaining candidates in the 1st District House race.

And whoever gets it will have to show a strong commitment to racial diversity, among other key issues.

Neely and Coleman, who are both black, acknowledged that by joining forces, their support will lend more strength to a candidate and could even help turn the election.

Prentiss County Chancery Clerk Travis Childers faces state Rep. Steve Holland of Plantersville in the April 1 runoff election for U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker’s former seat. Both Childers and Holland are white.

While Coleman and Neely said their campaigns and supporters transcended racial barriers, their joint endorsement will rest heavily on diversity.
