Delbert Hosemann, Mississippi’s first Republican Secretary of State since Reconstruction, has swept into office with some bold new ideas for changing the way the office is run, seemingly aimed at making his job more powerful.
His boldest idea is to get the Legislature to mandate a statewide re-registration of voters and have it completed before the 2010 census.
Some knowledgeable people in and outside the Legislature I’ve talked to think a statewide voter re-registration now is unnecessary, and question who’s going to pay for it in these tight fiscal times.
