Senate OKs funding to keep SCHIP afloat

By: Magnolia Tribune - September 28, 2007

The Sun Herald, 9/28/7

The U.S. Senate has voted in favor of adding $35 billion to the beleaguered State Children’s Health Insurance Plan, a decision now facing a promised veto by President Bush.

Congress will then have the option of passing a continuing resolution, providing a short-term extension to the plan while the federal government comes to a final conclusion, said Lee Youngblood, spokesman for U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, who voted against the measure. Youngblood said the extension will probably happen.
