HOPKINS – Earns Endorsement of MS Medical PAC

By: Magnolia Tribune - August 2, 2007

Mississippi Medical PAC Endorses Hopkins Calls Hopkins “Man of Firm Principle and Absolute Integrity”

The Mississippi Medical Political Action Committee (MMPAC) today announced its endorsement of former Special Assistant Attorney General and retired Major General Al Hopkins in the race for Mississippi’s next Attorney General. The endorsement stems from a vote of the Mississippi Medical Political Action Committee Board, an affiliate of the Mississippi State Medical Association.

“Al Hopkins is a man of firm principle and absolute integrity,” MMPAC Chair Dr. Ken Davis said. “He is right on the issues and knows how tort reforms have transformed the Mississippi legal climate, allowing physicians to continue to care for their patients across the state. Al Hopkins will ensure accountability in the Attorney General’s office and will stop this nonsense of steering multi-million dollar legal fees to campaign contributors.”

“For Mississippi to foster a first-class medical community, the Attorney General’s office must lead the way with openness and accountability to all Mississippians,” stated Hopkins. “It’s the foundation for our people’s trust in government, and it’s the beginning of what I’ll do to put Mississippians first, not political friends. I’m thrilled the members of the Mississippi Medical PAC have joined our campaign to bring accountability and integrity to the Attorney General’s office.”

MMPAC is a voluntary political action committee whose members are Mississippi physicians and physicians’ spouses promoting improved government and encouraging physicians and others to take an active and effective role in governmental affairs.

A former Special Assistant Attorney General, Al Hopkins began his public service in 1965 when he joined the 31st Infantry Division as an enlisted man. Later, during his last four years of service, he served as Assistant Adjutant General of the State of Mississippi and retired as a Major General. He is currently serving his second six-year term as Chief Judge of the Court of Military Appeals. A native of North Mississippi’s Tippah County, Hopkins resides in Gulfport with his wife Ruth and two grown children, Ashley and Norris. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Gulfport where he has taught for over 30 years.
