Representative Jamie Franks has chosen to run for Lieutenant Governor rather than for re-election, and four Democrats qualified to run for his seat. Representatives Bill Miles and J.B. Markham are retiring from legislative service, and a total of seven Democrats qualified to run for those two seats. Franks and Miles have chaired committees under Speaker McCoy’s leadership.
Republicans have qualified to run in all three of those districts, so the Democrat primaries will not decide the races. But the primaries will be powerful indicators of what to look for both in November’s general elections and in January’s election for Speaker of the House, which has House incumbents as nervous as long-tailed cats in a room full of rocking chairs.
