“We want Frank,” was the chant that filled the ballroom at the Clarion Hotel on Greymont Street. The chant was shouted on election day in support of Democratic primary winner Frank Melton.
Melton, who served as the former executive director of the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and CEO of the WLBT 3 television station in Jackson, met the crowd with hope in his eyes as he congratulated Mayor Harvey Johnson, Jr. on eight years of success.
“I would like to congratulate the mayor on his successful eight year tenure. It’s time for a change now,” Melton said.
Melton also extended thanks to a variety of crowd members while he promised that his administration would make change not only for the city, but also for the youth of the city.
“Right now, I’m looking at the brown eyes of a 12 year-old boy and I can promise you that this young boy is what our administration will be about,” Melton said smiling.
