Special Election Results: Districts 31, 71, and 101

Special elections were held in three districts this week for Mississippi House seats.

The candidates in each district had to run as independents, despite their affiliations.

Solomon Curtis Osborne

 

In House District 32, Leflore County, which was formerly held by Rep. Willie Perkins,  Democratic lawyer Solomon Curtis Osborne won the seat.

 

Ronnie Crudup JR

In House District 71, Hinds County, which was formerly held by Rep. Adrienne Wooten, Ronnie Crudup, Jr. won with 63% of the vote. Crudup Jr. is the director of New Horizons Ministries and the son of Ronnie Crudup Sr., who pastors New Horizon Church in Jackson.

 

Kent McCarty and Steven Utroska

In House District 101, Lamar County, which was formerly held by Rep. Brad Touchstone, none of the five candidates gathered enough votes. Kent McCarty (39%) and Steven Utroska (23%) edged ahead of the pack, they will be in a run-off election on April 2.
