The U.S. Department of Defense confirmed the death of Qasem Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force after an air strike authorized by President Donald Trump on Thursday.
This action follows a recent siege of Baghdad’s U.S. Embassy by supporters of an Iranian-backed militia.
Iran has vowed a “crushing” response.
Mississippi’s Congressional delegation is weighing in on the strike as tensions escalate in the Middle East.
“Qasem Soleimani was a terrorist responsible for attacks that killed hundreds of American troops in Iraq and caused chaos across the Middle East,” Sen. Roger Wicker said in a statement. “The President’s action makes clear the United States will not tolerate attacks against our nation, such as the Iranian-organized assault against our embassy in Baghdad this week. Yesterday’s successful operation also demonstrated the skill and power of America’s men and women in uniform. I am grateful for their commitment and service.”
Congressman Bennie Thompson (MS-02) used the strike to take a shot at the President, tweeting:
We have guided missiles and misguided men. -Dr. Martin L. King, Jr.

Congressman Palazzo also tweeted a comment on the Iranian air strike, supporting the President’s action.
This sends the strong message that if you come for America, you will be met with lethal force. Another successful mission accomplished by our US military under President Trump’s leadership.
