College football a risky business

Kevin Sumlin gets the occasional invitation to speak to aspiring football coaches. Cutting straight to the fundamentals, Sumlin writes 36 on a board and asks the would-be members of his profession what it means.
Nobody ever gets the answer.
Underneath, Sumlin writes: 12 x 3 = 36
Twelve games on the schedule, three hours apiece.
“Basically, every year you’re judged on 36 hours,” said Sumlin, who is in his third season as the Houston Cougars head coach. “A day and a half. That’s the bottom line.”
