Number Crunching in college athletics

It pays to be in the Southeastern Conference – literally.
Budget figures provided to The Clarion-Ledger for the fiscal year that started July 1 show that while Jackson State and Southern Miss’ athletic department budgets are staying essentially the same in the midst of a recession, budgets at Mississippi State and Ole Miss, the state’s two members of the SEC, are rising.
