Harrelson’s coaching dream leads him on ride to Omaha
Richy Harrelson was the first to put everyone’s thoughts into words.
Southern Miss turned a game-inning double play to secure a super regional sweep at Florida, and Harrelson “looked at our coaches and yelled, ‘We’re going to Omaha.’ It was great. I felt like I was 12 years old again.”
So it is that Harrelson, a former Iuka High School and Ole Miss baseball star, makes his first visit to college baseball’s biggest stage as a volunteer assistant coach at Southern Mississippi.
Calls have continued to flood Harrelson’s cell phone with well wishes and encouragement to go and “make Mississippi proud.”
