Transfer creates opening on roster
STARKVILLE — Mississippi State solved one piece to its basketball scholarship puzzle Wednesday.
It’s still waiting on another.
Reserve forward Jacquiese Holcombe said Wednesday that he’s planning to transfer from State. That’ll open up a scholarship for the arrivals of big men Renardo Sidney and John Riek.
Riek’s signing was confirmed by the school Wednesday.
Those additions put State two scholarships over the NCAA limit of 13 per team, but Holcombe’s departure means State is now only one scholarship over the limit. That’s assuming center Jarvis Varnado withdraws from the NBA draft.
