The LSU quarterback situation already figured to take on a new look this week when the No. 15-ranked Tigers try to get back on track with a home game against Tulane.
An injury to one of the primary components of the likely QB shuffle could change that even more.
Sophomore Andrew Hatch has been hobbled this week with an injury to his left leg and his status for the Tulane game is in doubt.
The injury apparently occurred during the Tigers’ 52-38 loss to Georgia on Saturday.
Neither Hatch nor starting quarterback Jarrett Lee attended interview sessions with the media Monday or Tuesday, the first time this season neither has been available.
Tigers coach Les Miles will not speak to the media until this afternoon — his regular schedule — but issued a statement through athletic media relations director Michael Bonnette on Tuesday night.
“They are treating a leg injury and are trying to get him back on the field as soon as possible and that means getting him on the field this weekend,” Bonnette said.
Bonnette said he had not seen Hatch and could not confirm media reports that the backup quarterback has been on crutches this week.
Another report said Hatch has a leg fracture, which Bonnette said he did not think was accurate.
In six games this season, Hatch has accounted for 411 yards of offense — 282 passing and 129 rushing. He has rushed two touchdowns and thrown for two.
With Hatch likely to be unavailable, Lee, a redshirt freshman, will start his fifth consecutive game and be backed up by true freshman Jordan Jefferson — the only two healthy scholarship players on LSU’s roster.
During a meeting with a group of reporters Sunday, Miles said Jefferson could “work his way into the rotation.”
That came less than 24 hours after Lee was picked off three times against Georgia, with two interceptions taken back for touchdowns.
