No. 6 Penn State is getting a lot of love from ESPN — GameDay’s Kirk Herbstreit has fawned so much over the Nittany Lions he must be a member of Joe Paterno’s family.
But the Nittany Lions (5-0) are about to find out if they are national championship contenders or pretenders. Four of Penn State’s next five games are on the road, starting at Purdue (2-2) on Saturday. Then there’s a trip to No. 18 Wisconsin (3-1) on Oct. 11, a home game vs. Michigan (2-2) on Oct. 18, followed by two more road games at No. 14 Ohio State (4-1) Oct. 25 and at Iowa (3-2) Nov. 8.
