Vols offense falls short

AUBURN, Ala. — It was a statement game for the Tennessee Volunteers and coach Phillip Fulmer on Saturday against Auburn.

After the 15th-ranked Tigers held off the Vols 14-12, there remain only questions.
Questions about the present, about the future and about the quarterback, after UT starter Jonathan Crompton went 8-for-23 for 67 yards and missed all five of his throws in the fourth quarter.
“It goes without saying that it is a very disappointing loss,” Fulmer said after his team fell to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the Southeastern Conference. “I think the defense played outstanding. Offensively, we were stuck.”
