Pegues looks for another big game vs. Auburn
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi State safety Derek Pegues dropped a couple of balls, committed the no-no of fielding a punt inside the 10 and missed a few more assignments than usual.
Still, coach Sylvester Croom smiled while talking about his prized player’s first appearance this season last Saturday after sitting out the first game under suspension.
“It is like having a Mercedes and they take your keys from you, but then you get those keys back — it feels pretty good to drive it,” Croom said. “He is our best football player I will not even hesitate and say that.”
Need proof of that? Just take him out of the lineup.
The Bulldogs’ collapse in their 22-14 loss to Louisiana Tech was fueled by fumbles on a kick return and a punt return, duties normally handled by Pegues, and the defense was generally lethargic.
