So you think you’re ready for some football?
No offense, but you have no idea.
Houston Nutt, on the other hand, has a really good idea. For months, he’s watched his new team get ready to play. For the past 3 ½ weeks, the former Arkansas coach has put his team through fall camp. Now, with less than three days remaining before Ole Miss entertains Memphis at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, Nutt knows all that’s left to do is finally play a game.
“It comes to a point where you have to put them out on the field, and that’s where we are,” Nutt said. “I think if you asked any coach or player across America, they’d tell you they’re absolutely ready. I’m ready to see these guys under the lights, in front of their moms and relatives and Ole Miss fans. You’re ready to see how they respond and how they take to coaching.”
The Rebels worked for almost two hours Wednesday in shorts and shoulder pads, with music pumped in on speakers set up all over the practice fields. The music selection, in case you’re wondering, consisted of an assortment of rap, pop and country music, featuring an array of artists, including Justin Timberlake, Tim McGraw and Toby Keith.
