Boeckman is least of OSU’s concerns
One supposes that Todd Boeckman has read “The Winner’s Manual” or at least that he soon will.
Critics wonder if any amount of poring over Jim Tressel’s words in the Ohio State coach’s new book will be enough. When the Buckeyes begin practice next month, the clock starts on the countdown to the transformation of Terrelle Pryor, the blue-chippingest OSU quarterback recruit since Art Schlichter, into the new Vince Young.
Critics say Tressel can win only one time with a quarterback as limited as Craig Krenzel in 2002. That team won them all despite many close calls, as Krenzel made just enough big plays.
Like Boeckman or not, the returning senior put up far bigger numbers in the lone season he has been a starter than Krenzel did in either of his two seasons at the controls.
Boeckman completed 63.9 percent of his passes.
Krenzel topped out at 59.4 percent in his junior year in the national championship season.
Boeckman threw for 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
Krenzel’s totals were 12 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in 2002, and 15/10 in 2003.
Boeckman threw for 2,379 yards.
Krenzel’s best was 2,110 in 2002.
