RELEASE
LAUDERDALE COUNTY SOLAR FACILITY CUSTOMER NOTICE
On June 9, Mississippi Power and SR Meridian, III, filed with the Mississippi Public Service Commission for a certificate of public convenience and necessity in Docket No. 2017-UA-0104 seeking authority for SR Meridian, III, to construct and operate a 53 MW solar generating facility in Lauderdale County and for Mississippi Power to purchase electricity generated by the project.
Mississippi Power will receive all of the energy and associated renewable energy credits generated by the project, which the company may use to either serve its customers with renewable energy, use for future renewable energy programs, or sell at wholesale to third parties.
The Lauderdale County solar facility will increase Mississippi Power’s renewable energy capacity to nearly 160 MW, enough energy to power more than 23,000 homes. This project strengthens Mississippi Power’s position as the largest partner in renewable energy in Mississippi.
If approved, the project could be in service by the end of 2019 and could result in an increase to residential customer bills of approximately 12 cents per 1,000 kWh per month beginning in 2020.
