Surprise: State budget picture better than thought
With about two weeks left in the fiscal year, the state’s financial condition is in significantly better shape than previously thought.
Through the month of May, state revenue collections are $43 million or (0.87 percent) above the official estimate, according to information compiled in recent days by the staff of the Joint Legislative Budget Committee.
Earlier this month it was reported that Department of Revenue collections through May were $154.3 million below the official estimate that was used in the 2016 legislative session to construct a budget for the current fiscal year.
