Former Mississippi Rep. Gene Alday dies
Gene Alday, the former mayor of Walls who later drew a firestorm of criticism over remarks he made as a legislator, has died.
Alday, 59, died Sunday evening at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven.
A native of Tunica who considered Walls home, Alday became the small Delta town’s first police chief in 2003. He served in that role until 2005, when he was elected mayor.
