Jackson Public Schools placed on probation
State education officials spared Jackson Public Schools its accreditation, opting instead Tuesday to put the district on probation. But that could change in 60 days if JPS doesn’t take corrective action.
The state Commission on School Accreditation agreed Tuesday with a recommendation by the Mississippi Department of Education’s accreditation office to place the Jackson Public School District on probation and then went a step further —asking that MDE audit all of the district’s schools.
The vote to downgrade the state’s second-largest school district’s accreditation status, preceded by a near three-hour consideration of cut scores for state standardized tests, saw brief discussion.
