RELEASE:
Wicker: Obama’s Amnesty Rule Struck Down
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a federal appeals court ruling that the Obama Administration lacks the authority to defer the deportation of more than 4 million illegal immigrants:
“In this case, our country’s system of checks and balances worked exactly as it should. The courts ruled that the President’s amnesty order undermined the rule of law. I have said all along that no president has the authority to act unilaterally in this manner, and I am pleased that the Court has struck down yet another example of this President’s executive overreach.
In April, Wicker and Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., signed an amicus brief filed in the U.S. Supreme Court supporting the state-led lawsuit, which the Court ruled on today. Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant was one of the plaintiffs in the underlying case.
