Politico Shands’ embezzlement trial repeatedly delayed
The bingo-related embezzlement trial of state politico and attorney Morgan Shands originally set for December 2014 has been postponed repeatedly and will remain on hold at least until November.
Meanwhile Shands of Bay St. Louis has defaulted on his agreement to repay more than $370,000 over 10 years to the American Legion post from which he is accused of embezzling more than $600,000…
…Shands, a former executive director of the state Democratic Party, has political and campaign ties with top state public officials both Democratic and Republican. He was a staffer for former and current Attorneys General Mike Moore and Jim Hood as well as State Auditor Stacey Pickering and U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker. He’s worked on campaigns for U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran and Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney and was campaign manager for Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes III’s unsuccessful run for lieutenant governor in 2011.
