Ronnie Shows: Wicker fighting for safer roads
While I served as a highway commissioner in Mississippi, I opposed allowing bigger trucks on our roads precisely because of these safety concerns. My most important job as a highway commissioner was keeping drivers and their families out of harms way.
My opposition to these larger trucks was not just conjecture; the facts about the dangers of these larger trucks are sobering. Every year in this country 4,000 people are killed and 100,000 more are injured in accidents involving large trucks. Double-trailer trucks also have an 11 percent higher fatal crash rate than single trailer trucks…
…Roger Wicker’s effort in the Senate to lead a campaign against these larger trucks demonstrates his commitment to look out for the regular folks and their families. For doing that, this lifelong Democrat thinks that Republican Roger Wicker deserves our praise and support.
