Cochran to Bert Case: I am going to win #MSSen

Cochran confident he’ll defeat McDaniel in runoff election

U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran sat down for an exclusive interview with 16 WAPT’s Bert Case.

Cochran’s opponents have questioned where he lives. Some claim he lives in a house in Washington, D.C. But this week, the incumbent senator met Case at what he calls his permanent residence just south of Oxford.

The six-term senator discussed last Tuesday’s election and his plans for the Republican primary runoff against Chris McDaniel.

“Did it shock you that you didn’t come in first?” Case asked Cochran.

“No, I wasn’t shocked. I knew it was going to be a close race,” Cochran said. “Others were spending a lot of money. You had other groups coming in and trying to help candidates. In an election, you just can’t predict how the votes are going until they are counted.

“Do you have an estimate now of what it will cost now to win, to go ahead and win in November?” Case asked.

“Apparently, a lot; the other side is spending a lot of money. I’m not going to let them buy the election,” Cochran said.

“You’re very confident of that, aren’t you?” Case said.

“I am. I am going to win. It’s just a matter of turning out the voters and having their support on Election Day,” Cochran said.

“What was the reason you came in getting fewer votes?” Case asked.

“They out-worked us on turning out votes on Election Day. We are going to repay the favor by coming in first in the runoff,” Cochran said.
