Supreme Court race: Approach to PACs differs

State Supreme Court Chief Justice Bill Waller Jr.’s main message to voters is his experience and the progress the court has made.

His opponent, Earle Banks, a long-time Jackson attorney, businessman and legislator, responds by hammering Waller for the pace of modernizing court systems and for taking too much credit for the developing drug court programs.

Waller and Banks appeared Monday at separate meetings before The Clarion-Ledger Editorial Board, to discuss why voters should elect them in next week’s election.

Voters going to the polls next Tuesday in the central Mississippi state Supreme Court district will decide whether to keep Waller, who has been on the court almost 15 years, including the last four as chief justice, or replace him with Banks, who has been a state representative for 21 years.
