Jackson committee supports some state legislation
Jackson’s Legislative Committee this week passed resolutions of support for some potential legislation at the Capitol.
One is for the state to create an attempted murder charge, like Rep. Bill Denny, R-Jackson, is trying to do with House Bill 120. Currently, many crimes that would qualify as attempted murder are tried as aggravated assault, which carries a maximum 20-year sentence, because state law caps sentencing for attempted capital crimes at 10 years.
