Treasurer hopefuls seek edge on retirement fund issue
Mississippi’s Public Employee Retirement System is a focal point in the race for state treasurer, as both candidates vow to keep the plan as is.
But Democrat Connie Moran said she will be the one to look out for employees and questions whether Republican opponent Lynn Fitch will put her party first.
Fitch dismisses Moran’s accusations, saying nothing is more important to her than keeping state employees and retirees’ nest eggs safe.
Fitch and Moran have each said they will honor promises made to current state employees and retirees, including the annual cost of living adjustment known as the 13th check.
