Barbour: $6M water project won’t fix Jackson’s woes
In a letter this week to Jackson Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr., Gov Haley Barbour said he is “eager” to work with the city in fixing its broken water system.
But he said using $6 million in state-backed bonds for a downtown water project does not do that.
“I support replacing the old, brittle pipes with new, reliable distribution or collection systems; however, one $6 million project will benefit only a small percentage of ratepayers and barely mitigate future maintenance and repair costs associated with future degradation of the system,”
