Dickie Scruggs in Oxford jail awaiting Aberdeen hearing
He’s held at the Lafayette County Jail awaiting his 1 p.m. Tuesday appearance in U.S. District Court in Aberdeen.
Lafayette Sheriff Buddy East confirmed to the Daily Journal that the 62-year-old Scruggs was booked into the Oxford jail about 6 p.m. Friday. He is serving a five-year sentence in a Kentucky federal prison for his part in a scheme to bribe Circuit Judge Henry Lackey of Calhoun City.
East said he isn’t aware Scruggs has had any visitors and that he hasn’t been given any instructions about his prisoner’s travel to Aberdeen on Tuesday.
The plea hearing for the former famed lawyer is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday before U.S. District Senior Judge Glen Davidson, Clerk David Crews said today.
Friday, sources close to the case said Scruggs is expected to admit his part in a second scheme – this one to bribe Circuit Judge Bobby DeLaughter of Hinds County.
