Crimefighters wanted: JPD seeks more cops

By: Magnolia Tribune - June 28, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger, 6/28/7

Jackson has 424 police officers on the payroll, down 11 from a few months ago. That’s 61 fewer than the department’s budgeted level of 485 officers and 26 fewer than when Mayor Frank Melton took office in July 2005.

With a number of veteran officers with 25 years of experience able to retire, new officers are needed.
