Add up the cash on hand for Barbour’s likely Democratic opponent, Jackson attorney John Arthur Eaves Jr., and the cash on hand for the 20 or so serious Democratic and Republican candidates for the other seven statewide races, and it equals less than the cash on hand for the incumbent Republican Barbour.
According to the May campaign finance reports filed recently with the secretary of state’s office, Barbour has $6.8 million in cash on hand.
Eaves and the candidates for lieutenant governor, auditor, attorney general, secretary of state, insurance commissioner, agriculture commissioner and treasurer have about $6.4 million in cash on hand.
