Attorney General Lynn Fitch joins other AG’s who have urged Congress to open an active investigation into China’s role in the spread of COVID-19. The most recent letter calls to hold Beijing accountable.
The letter is addressed to leaders from the House and Senate as well as the those who serve on the Foreign Affairs committees. It pushes lawmakers to hold open hearings on whether or not China should be held responsible for the health and economic impact the pandemic has spread around the world.
The most recent letter accuses China of having “layers of deceit” claiming they attempted to cover up the outbreak.
“During this same period, COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on our states and the Nation. We must all hold China accountable for the devastation and destruction caused by COVID-19. Tens of thousands have died from the virus and millions have lost their jobs. Countless businesses, both big and small, will perish and our states will grapple with tough economic decisions for years to come,” read the letter.
Previously, Mississippi AG Fitch followed in the footsteps of Missouri Attorney General, who was the first to file a lawsuit against the Chinese Communist Party. Fitch’s lawsuit came second and targeted Beijing, holding them accountable for suppressing information on the outbreak.
Attorney General’s that signed the letter include: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, West Virginia.
