VICKSBURG POST – Mississippi Center for Innovation & Technology named in honor of U.S. Sen. Cochran
Business leaders, government officials and area residents turned out Friday at the former Mississippi Hardware building to dedicate the building to one of the state’s most revered public officials, former U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran.
More than 100 people gathered inside the building for the ceremony dedicating the Mississippi Center for Innovation & Technology, or MCITy, in Cochran’s memory…
…He was influential in helping the development of MCITy.
“When you talk about Sen. Thad Cochran, it would take a lot longer than each of us have time today to discuss and tell you the vision, the integrity, the love for this city, the love for this state and his country that he had,” U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., said.

Senate Bill 2717 would allow people 60 or older to operate electric bicycles in wildlife management areas.
Buying or renewing a license plate in Mississippi can be expensive, and complaining about the cost is a bonding experience for people waiting in line at a tax collector’s office. For a generation now, car tag renewal notices have shown that people were getting a bit of a discount because of actions taken by legislators in 1994.
Under Senate Bill 2365, the paperwork would still say that legislative action reduced the price of a car tag, but without specifying that the action happened during particular legislative session. Current legislators could get political credit for saving people a bit of money — if people bother to read the fine print. (There is no effort to specify that legislators make other decisions that cost people more money for various services.)

The Mississippi Prison Reform Coalition will hold a block party and rally on behalf of those who are incarcerated Sunday evening.
The event will have guest speakers, such as Jakyah Cates and Christopher Cotton, who will lift up the voices of family of inmates and people who were formerly incarcerated.

CLARION LEDGER – Mississippi welfare embezzlement scandal: What was Families First? Where did it go?
Families First for Mississippi was not a nonprofit registered with the IRS. It had no employees. It never received any money from Mississippi.
The nonprofit that had claimed to run Families First — the Mississippi Community Education Center — is now trying to distance itself from Families First, and so is the state agency that used to promote it.
Meanwhile, its online presence is being scrubbed away.

WXXV – Mississippi lottery player claims $200,000 Instant Scratch Off prize!
To his surprise, the Tupelo man won $200,000, the biggest prize won yet from Mississippi Lottery games. He called his mother immediately to tell her the exciting news. She did not believe him and insisted he go to the store to verify his ticket.
He was still processing the win when he arrived at headquarters. With his winnings, he plans to move his mother back home.
