Mississippi Development Authority Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. will step down effective January 30 and return to the private sector.
“It has been an honor to serve at the helm of MDA with our good, talented people and partners to win economic development opportunities for Mississippians,” McCullough said. “I appreciate Gov. Phil Bryant allowing me to serve in this position and look forward to assisting with the transition of a new director.”
“Glenn has been an integral part of our economic success in Mississippi,” Bryant said. “I wish him well in his future endeavors and appreciate his commitment to supporting job creation and growth in Mississippi.”
McCullough told Y’all Politics he is behind Reeves in the new administration and is very supportive of how he will grow the economy at a productive pace in 2020.
“We are very optimistic. I support Governor Elect Reeves. He will put the right person on the job working with this team,” said McCullough.
During his tenure at MDA, Mississippi experienced record private capital investment, a record number of Mississippians working with higher incomes and record growth in global export trade.
Notable projects include Continental Tire, Relativity Space and two Amazon fulfillment centers. Mississippi also won two silver shovels from Area Development Magazine and, for the first time ever, two gold shovels under Governor Bryant’s and Director McCullough’s leadership.
He said the accomplishments made by the state during his time at MDA are really a tribute to the the teamwork between MDA, lawmakers and their partners that span from Entergy to IHL, Community College board and Mississippi Manufacturing, to name a few.
“As I transition back to the private sector, I look forward to continuing to support community and economic development in Mississippi,” McCullough said. McCullough came from the private sector in 2014, when he was appointed by Bryant to MDA.
“My wife Laura and I agreed when I came to MDA, this was the opportunity of a lifetime,” said McCullough.
A former mayor and Chairman of the Tennessee Valley Authority, McCullough and his wife Laura have homes in Tupelo and Brandon.
