WTOK – Detroit man charged with threatening Mississippi governor

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation announced Tuesday that a Detroit man has been charged with allegedly making threats against Gov. Phil Bryant.

Harold Joseph Collins, 48, was arrested on five counts of cyberstalking for making multiple deadly threats over the telephone to Bryant and his office during the month of January.

The U.S. Marshals Service and the Detroit Police Department assisted in the investigation and making the arrest.

DAILY JOURNAL – Mississippi House votes to limit landowners’ liability

Attorneys in the Mississippi House are sharply divided over a bill that could limit the liability of landowners or property managers who are sued by people harmed on their property.

The House voted 74-39 Monday to pass Senate Bill 2901, named the “Landowners Protection Act.” The vote was largely along party lines, with most Republicans supporting it and most Democrats opposing it. After the vote, the bill was held for the possibility of another round of House debate another day.

Republican Rep. Mark Baker of Brandon, who is an attorney, argued for the bill, saying it would bring clarity to business owners.

Democratic Rep. Ed Blackmon, who is also an attorney, argued against the bill, saying it would create problems for people who are harmed.

Sexting, the act of sending sexually explicit text messages, is becoming more prevalent among teens, according to a JAMA Pediatrics Journal investigation.A House committee on Tuesday amended a Senate “revenge porn” bill to exempt minors from its penalties.

Senate Bill 2528 would provide penalties for anyone who shares or publishes “intimate visual material,” such as nude photos, that were created with the intention of being private.

During an appearance on the Paul Gallo Show, businessman Perry Parker announced his run for Public Service Commissioner of the Southern District.

Parker says he chose to run for PSC because he believes his 30 years of experience in Finance and business is a perfect fit for the office of PSC.

“I’m going to bring stability and dependability to the Public Service Commission and that is going to go a long way to growing the economy and jobs in south Mississippi,” said Parker…

Governor: No position on Ole Miss players’ anthem kneelingMississippi Gov. Phil Bryant says he hasn’t given much thought about the University of Mississippi basketball players who kneeled during the National Anthem to protest a pro-Confederate gathering on campus.

Bryant tells The Associated Press on Tuesday that he’s been away in Washington and dealing with the aftermath Mississippi storms. He says he hasn’t had “much of a chance to look at” video of the players kneeling.
