State, local health leaders concerned about Senate bill
Mississippi Rep. Jerry Turner, R-Baldwyn, said it’s still not clear what the state will face in terms of Medicaid funding, noting the state has seen its Medicaid budget expand substantially since 2012.
“It’s hard to speculate, not knowing what we will have to work with,” Turner said. “We’ll have to do the best we can once they’ve finished.”
State Rep. Steve Holland, D-Plantersville, hopes that federal legislators will back up and get input from citizens and health care providers or they risk backlash several times bigger than Mississippi in 2005 when Medicaid introduced changes for seniors and the disabled who were eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare.
“Our country does not need another poorly thought out health care plan,” Holland said. “Citizens should register their concerns now before it’s too late.”
