Chickasaw consolidation goes to conference
A conference committee of key House and Senate members – three from each chamber – will try to determine the number of school districts in Chickasaw County.
On a motion from Senate Education Committee Chair Gray Tollison, R-Oxford, the Senate opted Tuesday to invite conference rather than concur and send to Gov. Phil Bryant a House plan to merge the Houston, Okolona and Chickasaw school districts into one system that would be the Chickasaw County Consolidated School District.
The original Senate proposal would have consolidated the Houston and Chickasaw school districts, but would have left intact the Okolona district.
