Justice Dawn Beam Endorsed by Mississippi’s Business and Industry Political Education Committee (BIPEC)
Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Dawn Beam has been endorsed by the Business and Industry Political Education Committee (BIPEC) for her 2016 campaign. Justice Beam was recently appointed to the Supreme Court by Governor Phil Bryant to fill the unexpired term of Justice Randy “Bubba” Pierce following his resignation.
In announcing the BIPEC Board of Directors’ recommendation for Justice Dawn Beam, BIPEC encouraged its members and their representative trade and professional associations to support Justice Beam as a candidate willing to uphold the Constitutional separation of powers which distinguishes the intent, charge and actions of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government. “Free enterprise and entrepreneurship requires an impartial, fair and rule-of-law judiciary,” said BIPEC Chairman Randy Easterling, MD.
BIPEC is a nonprofit association comprised of individuals, trade associations and companies who unite to protect and advance free enterprise through research, education, and member action. BIPEC’s purpose is to learn backgrounds, voting records and key positions of members and candidates for the Mississippi Legislature, Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, disseminate credible research findings to BIPEC members, educate BIPEC’s membership network on the impact that legislator and judge-made decisions have on Mississippi’s economic growth, business attractiveness and general prosperity of the State’s employers, and to expand distribution of educational research data to the public arena when deemed appropriate for greater awareness of membership concerns and issues.
Justice Beam serves as a member of the Supreme Court from a district encompassing the southern portion of the state (District 2) which includes Adams, Amite, Clarke, Covington, Forrest, Franklin, George, Greene, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Lamar, Lawrence, Lincoln, Marion, Pearl River, Perry, Pike, Simpson, Smith, Stone, Walthall, Wayne and Wilkinson counties.
Prior to being appointed to the Supreme Court, Justice Beam served as 10th District Chancery Judge in Forrest, Lamar, Marion, Pearl River and Perry Counties. She led the effort to address abuse and neglect in Marion County to protect children, and previously served as Lamar County Prosecuting Attorney, Youth Court Prosecutor, Criminal Prosecutor in Justice and County Court. She has practiced law for more than 20 years representing people, businesses and various entities throughout South Mississippi. She has a Law Degree and Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from the University of Mississippi.
Justice Beam is married to Dr. Stephen Beam and they have five children. She served as a Foundation Board Member of the University of Southern Mississippi, a Member of Sumrall United Methodist Church, Founding Member of the Sumrall Development Foundation, Co-Founder of Pine Belt 360, Member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and the Sumrall Lion’s Club.
