MML, cities push for SB 2146 for more infrastructure tax revenue

Mississippi Cities Campaign for Funding to Fix Roads, Sewers

Jackson, Mississippi A coalition of nearly 300 municipal governments in Mississippi is campaigning for a bill that would give them more sales tax revenue to repair infrastructure.

The Mississippi Municipal League held a press conference in the State Capitol Wednesday to express support for Senate Bill 2146. The bill would give municipalities 20 percent of sales tax revenue over two years to maintain infrastructure including roads, bridges and sewers. Cities receive 18.5 percent of sales tax revenue that otherwise goes to the state general fund.
