Charter school expansion passes MS Senate

By: Magnolia Tribune - March 2, 2016

Charter school legislation advances

Both arms of the Legislature on Tuesday passed bills that would expand the state’s charter school law, allowing students to attend charter schools located outside of their own school district.

With a vote of 31-19, the Senate approved Senate Bill 2161, which would remove the requirement that school boards of C-rated school districts approve a charter school locating in such districts.

The House passed a similar bill with little discussion. House Bill 1044 differs from the Senate version in that it keeps the requirement that school boards in C districts approve a charter school that wants to locate in the district.
