PAUL HAMPTON: Gun rights gang shoots for the foot
“If it weren’t for Noel Fritsch, Chris McDaniel would be a U.S. senator today.”
— Sir Winston Churchill
For the record, that’s satire. I just wanted to see what it was like to be Noel Fritsch. He’s the political mastermind from state Sen. Chris McDaniel’s unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign who has a knack for turning up whenever there is a whiff of scandal.
He was in the middle of the email trail that tripped up the nursing home photo gang. The pay-to-play preacher who said he was paid to buy votes for U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran changed his mind and said Fritsch paid him to say that.
“Off the record” and “on background” were common responses to my requests for information. Or he asked for my boss’ email address. Or he doesn’t respond at all.
Now comes his latest escapade — the mailers from the National Association For Gun Rights. That’s the group that thinks the National Rifle Association doesn’t offer a spirited-enough defense of gun rights. Fritsch leads the Mississippi branch.
