Democratic lawmakers endorse Slater, blast Bryant
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Vicki Slater was joined by a handful of lawmakers and others offering their endorsements at the Capitol on Tuesday and criticizing incumbent Republican Gov. Phil Bryant.
“There is a glaring record of the incumbent who likes to say we are announcing these jobs and these jobs and these jobs around the state, yet there are no new net jobs, because as soon as we announce some new ones, we have lost other ones,” said state House Democratic Leader Bobby Moak of Bogue Chitto.
Moak and six other Democratic lawmakers endorsed Slater on Tuesday, along with several area pastors and two union leaders.
“Phil Bryant has been prejudiced, plain and simple,” said The Rev. Belinda Johnson of Faith Temple Evangelistic Church. “That’s why he’s turned away the Medicaid expansion dollars from President Obama … Vicki Slater will give every single Mississippian a seat at the table.”
