Reeves, Bryant Take Different Tacks In Post-session Press Releases

Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves flexed his muscle at the end of the special session, but Gov. Phil Bryant took the high road and had nothing for praise for both legislative leaders.

After several hours of waiting for the governor to expand the call of the special session to include extension of other technical yet crucial aspects of the Medicaid program, Reeves and the Senate acted on their own.

They pulled back House Bill 1 — the partial reauthorization bill — and amended it to include the additional parts. This was done without the governor extending the call, and it passed with only Sen. Hob Bryan dissenting. (For the importance of this move, read this post.)
