Two new candidates enter Hattiesburg mayoral race

Two new candidates have entered Hattiesburg’s mayoral race after filing qualifying documents this week.

Catherine M. Starr, of 121 Melwood Drive, qualified to run as a Democrat for mayor and becoming a primary challenger for incumbent Mayor Johnny DuPree.

Starr previously ran in 2011 for the District 2 supervisor seat in Forrest County, but was beaten by her incumbent opponent Charles Marshall.

Also, perennial Mississippi candidate Shawn O’Hara has qualified as an independent candidate for the mayor’s office. O’Hara’s qualifying documents list a residence at 105 Edna Street in Hattiesburg.
