Supreme Court orders reprimand for Hancock County judge

The Mississippi Supreme Court has ordered a public reprimand for a Hancock County justice court judge accused of fixing tickets for a 59-year-old man cited for violating oyster-harvesting laws.

The Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance had recommended Tommy Carver receive a public reprimand and a 30-day suspension without pay for a complaint lodged by two marine patrol officers with the state Department of Marine Resources.

In a 5-4 decision Thursday, the Supreme Court decided Carver should be reprimanded in open court and pay assessed costs of $2,022.75.
